Bombshell dropped by Ex-BCCI selector: Prithvi Shaw set to leave Mumbai? Future of opener in question

New Delhi: Former Indian selector Jatin Paranjape recently spoke out against the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for their management of Prithvi Shaw, a talented cricket player who has been excluded from the State team for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. In a PTI report, it was revealed that the MCA felt the need to constantly shield Shaw during matches due to concerns about his fitness, discipline, and mindset. A source within the MCA disclosed that Shaw frequently missed training sessions and was often spotted returning to the team hotel in the early hours of the morning after nights out. The source also referred to Shaw as being "his own worst enemy."
Paranjape shared his empathetic sentiments for Shaw but dropped a hint that MCA might not lend him any support, given that Shaw might be on the lookout for a new team in the next season. He didn’t shy away from expressing his disapproval for the thoughtless comments from an individual associated with MCA.
“Such loose comments from sources within the MCA is truly unfortunate. Looks like they are not interested in helping Shaw out. This will definitely be his last season as a Mumbai player,” Paranjape wrote on X, while replying to a post.
Shaw burst onto the cricket stage with great expectation, making his first appearance in Test cricket in 2018 at just 18 years old, during a local series against the West Indies.
His maiden triumph in the game unfurled when he nailed his one and only hundred, and although he’s stepped onto the field for just four more Tests since then, his last action was quite a while ago – four years back to be precise, against none other than Australia.
Despite showing promising talent in One Day International and T20 International matches, he hasn’t participated in India’s white-ball competitions since 2021. This is sadly a letdown for someone who was viewed as a rising star in Indian cricket a couple of years ago.
